When You Feel Like You'll Never Change
The promise had been made before.
A young believer had told God that things would be different this time. The same struggle would be resisted. The same mistake would not happen again. Yet only a few days later, there was disappointment, frustration, and the feeling of having failed once more.
As the guilt settled in, a discouraging thought appeared: "Maybe I'll never change."
Many young Christians wrestle with that feeling. They want to grow. They want to follow Christ faithfully. Yet the process of spiritual growth often seems slower than expected, causing them to question whether real change is even happening.
God's Work in You Is a Process
One of the greatest misunderstandings about spiritual growth is the belief that maturity happens overnight. In reality, God often changes His people gradually. Just as a tree grows slowly over time, spiritual growth develops through daily obedience, repeated repentance, and continual dependence on Christ.
Growth may feel slow, but slow growth is still growth.
Failure Is Not the End of the Story
The enemy loves to convince believers that their failures define them. God says otherwise. While sin should never be excused, it can be forgiven. Through Christ, failure does not have the final word.
The Christian life is not about never falling. It is about continually returning to the Savior who lifts us up.
God Sees What You Cannot See
You may focus on how far you still have to go, but God sees how far He has already brought you. The desires you now have for holiness, prayer, and obedience are evidence of His work in your life.
A spiritually dead heart does not long for spiritual growth.
The very struggle you feel may be evidence that God is already changing you.
Keep Looking to Christ
Real transformation does not come from trying harder alone. It comes from staying close to Christ. As you spend time in His Word, pray, worship, and walk in obedience, God continues His work within you.
The same grace that saved you is the grace that changes you.
Practical Applications
- Confess failures quickly and honestly.
- Focus on Christ rather than your performance.
- Celebrate small evidences of spiritual growth.
- Stay consistent in prayer and Bible reading.
- Trust God's timing in your spiritual journey.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, there are times when I become discouraged by my struggles and failures. Thank You that Your grace is greater than my weakness. Help me trust the work You are doing in my life and keep my eyes fixed on Christ. Continue changing me into the person You want me to be. In Jesus' name, Amen.
