Grace and Peace to You

Philippians 1:1–2 (ESV)
Paul and Timothy, servants of Christ Jesus, To all the saints in Christ Jesus who are at Philippi, with the overseers and deacons: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Exposition

Paul opens his letter by reminding the Philippian believers — and us — of two profound truths: who we are and what we receive in Christ. We are saints in Christ Jesus — not because of our own merit, but because of our union with Christ. That identity shapes our calling, our confidence, and our conduct.

The greeting “grace and peace” is not just polite words; it is the essence of the gospel. Grace is God's unearned favor toward sinners, and peace is the reconciliation and wholeness that comes through Christ. Together they remind us that we live every day sustained by God’s mercy and secured in His love.

Application

Today, live out your identity. When doubts or fears rise, remind yourself: I am a saint in Christ. Receive God’s grace not just as a one-time gift but as a daily source of strength. Seek the peace that Christ offers through prayer, Scripture, and obedience.

  1. Start your day by saying aloud: “I am a saint in Christ Jesus.”
  2. When anxiety comes, pray: “Grace and peace, Lord — fill me anew.”
  3. Show grace to someone today through a small, practical act of kindness.
“Grace is the sweet beginning of all good things; peace is the lasting fruit of Christ's work in us.”
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, thank You that You have united us to Yourself. Remind us today that we are saints because of You. Pour out Your grace and grant us Your peace so we may live for Your glory. Amen.

Short excerpt for sharing: “Remember your identity: you are a saint in Christ. Receive His grace and peace today.”
