When You Feel Like God Is Far Away
It was late at night.
A student sat on the edge of the bed with an open Bible. The room was quiet. The words on the page were familiar, but something felt different.
The excitement once felt during prayer seemed gone.
The closeness once experienced with God felt distant.
A question quietly entered the heart:
"God, where are You?"
Many young believers experience seasons like this. Prayer feels difficult. Worship feels routine. God seems distant even though you desperately want to feel close to Him again.
The good news is that feelings do not determine God's presence.
“I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
— Hebrews 13:5
God Has Not Moved
When God feels far away, it is tempting to believe He has abandoned us. Yet Scripture repeatedly reminds us that God remains faithful even when our emotions fluctuate.
God's presence is constant.
His promises do not change.
Faith Is Strongest When Feelings Are Weak
Anyone can trust God when emotions are high and circumstances are easy. True faith continues trusting even when God feels distant.
Faith walks by truth.
Not by feelings alone.
Keep Seeking God
The worst response to spiritual dryness is giving up. Continue praying, reading Scripture, and gathering with other believers. God often works during seasons when we feel the least.
Keep pursuing God.
He is closer than you realize.
Remember God's Past Faithfulness
Think back to moments when God answered prayers, guided decisions, and strengthened your faith. The God who was faithful then remains faithful now.
God does not change.
His faithfulness continues forever.
Practical Ways to Draw Near to God
- Pray honestly about your struggles.
- Listen to worship music that points to Christ.
- Spend time with mature believers.
- Trust God's promises more than your feelings.
Prayer
Lord, there are times when You feel far away. Help me trust Your promises even when my feelings say otherwise. Draw me closer to You and strengthen my faith during this season. Thank You for never leaving me or forsaking me. Amen.
