"But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation." – 1 Peter 1:15 (KJV)

An open Bible and light on a path symbolizing growth in holiness

What Is Holiness?

Holiness is being set apart for God's purposes and reflecting His character. It’s not moral perfection achieved through human strength but Christlikeness formed by grace. God calls us not just to believe, but to become: to be holy as He is holy.

1. Begin with the Gospel

Holiness is not a ladder to heaven. It starts with justification—being declared righteous in Christ by faith alone. Our pursuit of holiness (sanctification) flows from this saving relationship, not toward it.

2. Abide in the Word

Jesus said, "Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth" (John 17:17). Daily Scripture meditation renews the mind and transforms the heart. Let the Word shape your thoughts, habits, and affections.

3. Cultivate Spiritual Disciplines

Prayer, fasting, worship, service, and fellowship are tools God uses to grow us. These aren’t legalistic duties but means of grace by which we abide in Christ and grow in obedience and love.

4. Put Sin to Death

Romans 8:13 commands us to mortify the deeds of the body by the Spirit. Holiness involves daily repentance and spiritual warfare against sin. Starve the flesh, feed the Spirit.

5. Walk by the Spirit

True holiness is Spirit-empowered, not self-generated. As we walk by the Spirit, the fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, etc.—begins to flourish (Galatians 5:22-23).

6. Remember: It’s a Lifelong Journey

Holiness is progressive. We stumble, we fall, but we press on. God is patient. He who began the good work in us will carry it to completion (Philippians 1:6).

💬 Reformed Wisdom

“The life of holiness is not a life of ease, but it is a life of joy and power through the Holy Spirit.” – John Owen
“Be killing sin, or sin will be killing you.” – John Owen

📌 Final Encouragement

Do not be discouraged by slow progress. The call to holiness is a call to walk with Christ daily, trusting Him to sanctify you by His Word and Spirit. Fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and finisher of your faith.

John MacArthur: A Theological Tribute to a Life Poured Out for the Word

John MacArthur: A Theological Tribute to a Life Poured Out for the Word John MacArthur (1939–2025): A Theological Tribute to a Life Poured Out for the Word On July 14, 2025, Pastor John Fullerton MacArthur Jr., aged 86, entered into the presence of the Lord. He leaves behind not only his beloved wife Patricia, their children and grandchildren, but also a global legacy of faithful expository preaching, uncompromising biblical conviction, and a church grounded in the sufficiency of Scripture. This is not merely a tribute to a man, but a reflection on a life shaped by the eternal Word of God. “I Have Fought the Good Fight” (2 Timothy 4:7–8) Paul’s words to Timothy find a fitting echo in John MacArthur’s life: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” For over five decades, MacArthur embodied these verses through unwavering dedication to biblical truth. His pulpit was not a platform for innovation but for illumi...

How to Start a Daily Bible Reading Habit: Practical Tips for Consistent Devotion As Christians, we are called to live by every word that comes from the mouth of God (Matthew 4:4). One of the best ways to grow in our faith is by reading the Bible daily. But starting a daily Bible reading habit can feel overwhelming. Where do you begin? How do you stay consistent? In this post, I’ll share some practical tips to help you establish a daily Bible reading habit and deepen your relationship with God through His Word. 1. Start with a Plan The first step in developing a daily Bible reading habit is to have a clear plan. Decide which Bible translation works best for you, and consider a reading plan that suits your time and attention span. If you’re new to the Bible, a book like the Gospel of John or Proverbs can be a good place to start. Tip: Use a Bible app or a physical journal to track your progress. It’s easier to stay motivated when you see how far you’ve come. 2....
